Volunteer:

The Meals on Wheels program could not survive without the dedication and support of the many giving men and women of the Prescott area. The donated hours of labor that our volunteers provide are significant. In most weeks that number exceeds 150 volunteers…equivalent to four full-time employees!

Recruitment of volunteers is an ongoing task. At any given time there are 100 to 150 volunteers required to serve our clientele.

The sense of satisfaction of helping those in need provides a powerful incentive to continue contributing to our success. Volunteers can serve in many capacities and for as many hours as they choose.

Your help as a volunteer is needed in any of the following areas:

Kitchen / Dining Room

 Meals are packed and served 5 days a week in our friendly and cheerful dining room, which is also open to the public between 11:15 am-12:45 pm. Volunteers are needed to pack over 200 meals a day for delivery to our homebound clients; and serve meals, assist guests, and keep our dining room and kitchen areas clean. Typically we have 6 to 8 volunteers each day who have a regularly scheduled one day a week shift. In addition, the dining room has two receptionists who welcome and log in clients as well as receive donations for meals.

Drivers

 At the present time there are 10 routes in Prescott and 4 routes in Prescott Valley for our homebound clients. Volunteer drivers are needed each day to ensure that every person on every route receives a hot meal. Drivers use their own vehicles and receive mileage reimbursement at .40 cents a mile. Routes vary anywhere from 8 to 30 miles, and the number of meals delivered on each route varies between 10-15.  In addition to delivering meals, drivers also provide a brief wellness check and enjoy a few minutes of conversation with those who are so inclined. For many of our clients this is their only daily outside contact.

Get Creative
Our clients love to receive special handmade items to brighten their day. We accept and encourage any fun family-friendly, non-religious or political items that our drivers can deliver to our clients along with their meals. Some ideas of welcomed items are: handmade inspirational, birthday, or thoughtful cards;
creatively decorated or holiday themed placemats or bookmarks; poems, or other creative craft ideas.

Special Events

Prescott Meals on Wheels hosts several special events each year as part of a community education program and to support our fund-raising efforts.  Volunteers are always needed to help with these efforts as well as on planning committees, or creating their own community fundraiser.
