Our program could not survive without the dedication and support of the over 180 volunteers who donate their time and hearts daily. The sense of satisfaction of helping those in need provides a powerful incentive to continue contributing to our success. Each volunteer role is a commitment of one scheduled day a week and the times vary depending on where you help us out at.

Below are the ways that volunteers can help us strive to be more than a meal.

Kitchen / Dining Room to pack and serve meals

Meals are packed and served 5 days a week in our dining room, The Café on Rosser, which is also open to the public between 11:15 am-12:45 pm.

Pack and Serve: We pack over 200 meals a day for delivery to our homebound clients and serve meals in our dining room as well as assist guests and keep our dining room and kitchen areas clean. Time commitment:8am-1pm

Dining Room Reception: Greet guests at the reception desk and receive payment for lunch. Time commitment: 10:45am-1pm

· Requirements needed: A food handler’s card is required to pack and serve meals

Drivers to Deliver Meals

Volunteer drivers are needed each day to ensure that our homebound clients receive a hot meal and a wellness check. Drivers use their own vehicles and receive mileage reimbursement at .40 cents a mile. Routes vary anywhere from 8 to 30 miles, and the number of meals delivered on each route varies between 10-15. In addition to delivering meals, drivers also provide a brief wellness check and enjoy a few minutes of conversation with those who are so inclined. For many of our clients this is their only daily outside contact. Time commitment: 9:45am-12:45pm

      · Requirements needed: A Level One fingerprint card and background check

Thrift Store

Our thrift store, the New To You Boutique, which is managed solely by our volunteers. The store is open Monday-Thursday between 9:30am-2:30pm. Volunteers receive, price and sell items, organize and decorate the store, and assist guests. Time commitment: 9:30am – 12:00pm or 12:00pm -2:30pm

  •  Requirements needed: Retail and Customer Service background is helpful

Special Events
Prescott Meals on Wheels hosts several special events each year as part of a community education program and to support our fund-raising efforts. Volunteers are always needed to help with these efforts as well as on planning committees, or creating their own community fundraiser.
Want to raise money to support continued services to homebound adults in your community? Consider creating a fun event or accepting donations for your birthday or create a fundraiser on Facebook.
Get Creative
Our clients love to receive special handmade items to brighten their day. We accept and encourage any fun family-friendly, non-religious or political items that our drivers can deliver to our clients along with their meals. Some ideas of welcomed items are: handmade inspirational, birthday, or thoughtful cards; creatively decorated or holiday themed placemats or bookmarks; poems, or other creative craft ideas.
